What guides us?

Our moral commitment

We Amchigeles strongly believe in the concept of three debts we are born with; deva rinn(debt to Gods), pitra rinn(debts to our forefathers and ancestors) and rishi rinn(debt to our sages). While the former two are personal debts, we perceive rishi rinn as our debt to society. In the last few centuries of our community’s written history, there are a number of exemplary deeds of our forefathers who served the society to repay our debts to the sages who endowed upon us an unending knowledge which we are all proud of. As an organization, it is our moral commitment to walk on the path shown by our ancestors and do our part in continuing the tradition.

Our commitment to the younger generation

Amchigeles have migrated to Canada for the last 50+ years. Today our society has members who were born and raised in Canada (second generation now), and a large number of of us who migrated or are migrating as we write this. There is a good amount of work to be done to keep us connected; newcomers getting introduced to the society and building relationships with those who have already made Canada their home. Besides establishing social connections, the socio-economic environment which our younger generation lives in is very different from those of us who migrated in yester-decades. World has leaped into a digital world – the challenges and opportunities this new age brings are different from what we experienced. We feel it is important that our organization provides support to our community in the new world and help our younger generation when in need. For this, it is important that we groom young leaders who can spearhead these initiatives

Geographical spread

Canada is a vast country with four time zones. Amchigeles are settling down in various provinces and territories of Canada. Over the last couple of years we were able to connect with a number of amchigeles in all major cities who shared a sentiment like ours where they wanted to connect with other amchigeles in Canada and welcome newcomers to their communities. We are working towards a model where amchigeles across Canada feel connected and welcomed wherever they choose to settle.
